A Canadian Ranger from Gjoa Haven in Nunavut digs up caribou carcasses that were stored in a food cache in the summer as an emergency food supply. The caribou were shot, harvested and buried approximately 4 months earlier in a traditional process that involves allowing the meat to rot and ferment in the ground and under rocks and serve as an emergency food source stored in the field and retrieved when required.
